Job Summary

The Special Education Lead Case Manager coordinates and oversees special education services for assigned students. This position ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, manages the IEP process, supports teachers, and serves as a liaison among staff, families, and service providers to ensure students receive appropriate services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary case manager for students receiving special education services.
  • Coordinate and facilitate ARD/IEP meetings, including scheduling and documentation.
  • Ensure IEPs are developed, implemented, and monitored in compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Provide guidance and support to special education teachers and paraprofessionals.
  • Monitor student progress toward IEP goals and ensure progress reporting.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant student records and documentation.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers and related service providers to ensure appropriate accommodations and services.
  • Provide training or guidance to staff regarding special education procedures and compliance.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding services, progress, and concerns.
  • Assist with evaluation referrals and coordination with assessment staff.
  • Monitor service minutes and ensure delivery of required supports.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
  • Valid Special Education Teaching Certification.
  • Experience working in special education (preferred).
  • Knowledge of federal and state special education laws and compliance requirements.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple student cases and deadlines.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; automated external defibrillator (AED)

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking/marching

Lifting: Regular moderate lifting and carrying (15–44 pounds); may lift and move musical instruments

Environment: Work outside and inside; exposure to extreme temperatures (hot, cold, and inclement weather), humidity, and prolonged sunlight; work on uneven or slippery surfaces; frequent exposure to noise

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent district and statewide travel
